Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips featuring commentary and analysis of the representations of women that are prevalent in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and a prestigious feminist for more than a decade. She is the author and director of executive for Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit website that explores representations of women within popular media narratives. In her efforts to dispel the myths of women that have been portrayed in pop culture, she seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women as well as other classes of the Internet space. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. In addition to being a popular public speaker, she has given presentations at TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the university. In 2009, the ebullient young woman was targeted online for launching a website series on gender in videogames. However the attack could not deter her instead it made her more determined as a feminist media critic. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media critic. She was also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores pop culture depictions of women.
